The teddy bear's origin traces back to 1902, inspired by a political cartoon depicting President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt refusing to shoot a bear cub during a hunting trip in Mississippi, an act of mercy that captured public imagination. Shortly afterward, a Brooklyn candy shop owner named Morris Michtom created a stuffed bear toy in tribute, naming it "Teddy's bear" with the president's permission, and the toy quickly became a massive commercial success, launching what became the Ideal Toy Company.
